Characters from Ancient Sword Legend 古剑奇谭 2014

I normally wouldn’t want to watch a period drama based on a video game, but I know and love like 80% of the actors/actresses… and it’s been trending on weibo continuously since the beginning of July…

Even though it’s based on a video game, the plot is complex and the scenery, martial arts and the actors are wonderful. I really hope everyone will give this series a try.

Ruroken Kyoto Taika Hen Spazz Post

the50-person:

dedicated to : drunkensword, who has to wait for online release (if im not wrong)

OMG so i finally managed to wrench permission from my mum to allow me to go to the cinema. (y’know, over-protective mothers…) Kay i’ll try to keep this spoiler free (i think i might recap if i have time. no promises though since my finals are in 25 plus days)

i didnt really dare to have too much expectations since i was scarred before by sequels. :P plus the first RK movie was so awesome that i naturally feared that i would be disappointed.

so, on with the more ‘Mehhh’ stuff first. (i like eating bitter veggies before tasting my sweet chicken. bad analogy.) i cant help but compare to the first RK movie, but i guess that’s a natural reaction, since this IS a sequel. maybe cos the first one had a simpler story, so it was easier to edit and direct; kyoto taika hen had to cover a rather large portion of the kyoto arc. (AN ARC, MIND YOU) the editing was a little less smooth than the first RK movie, with certain awkward cuts at certain points. the transitions (esp those between past and present) could have been better. but maybe i cant really blame them, since there were essentially multiple groups and the movie was tracking the movements and happenings of each group of characters. (say, the ppl left behind at the dojo, kenshin on his way to kyoto, shishio and his juppongatana. that portion of the movie alone has like THREE groups and the director was trying to evenly spread out the attention inthe storytelling.)

oh and arrggghhh i get it that kenshin loves kaoru, but please dont make him have such noble ideals only to (quoting Shishio Makoto himself) : “commit love-suicide”. i was hoping that kenshin would be more rational and more concerned about the big picture. :(

yeah my main peeve is the editing. but yeah blame the fact that kyoto arc is really long and difficult to manage, so i daresay team otomo still did a pretty good job.

now, as for the great stuff:

1) the fight scenes

as awesome as ever, especially Kenshin vs Soujirou and the one where Kenshin kicks ass in Shingetsu Village.

2) the opening scene

absolutely chilling! and my favourite character (in the manga. in the movie, it’s kenshin cos y’know, takeru :’) ) is the first one to appear AGAIN in the RK movies. (if you wanna know who’s my fav in the manga, check out the first RK movie to see who appears first.) i cant say more without risking spoilers. BUT OH SHISHIOOOOOOOO. fujiwara tatsuya owns the role, managing to give me creeps even though i cant really see his face cos of the bandages. and the movie score adds to the atmosphere. love sato naoki.

3) KAMIKI RYUNOSUKE AS SETA SOUJIRO ASDFGHJKL *major fangirl squeal*

*calms self down* he is seta soujiro. im just so so glad that he wanted this role so badly himself that he trained before the sequels were even confirmed and even went to dye his hair blue. love the amount of dedication. plus he LOOKS LIKE SOU-CHAN. and the smile of his. HE NAILED ITTTTT.

(what happened to me calming myself down eh?)

4) Takeru

'nuff said. As pretty and cool as ever. and his acting was subtle in some parts, like where in the trailer, he was shown families crying over dead officers, and then i saw that there was a small tear threatening to slide out of his right eye. never would be able to notice this if i had not gone to the cinema and instead watched it on my lousy com. and his action scenes were as professionally done as ever.

5) the calefares

all of the calefares were GOOD. in fact, my eyes watered a bit, and that was because of the calefares. *sigh* if all calefares are this good….

6) the dude playing Mishima Eiji

this boy is awesome! never expected that much of a performance from a child actor! (but then i shouldnt judge by appearances, since kamiki ryunosuke used to be known to be a child acting prodigy and was active in the entertainment industry since like 2 yrs old) i love how he cries, it really brings out the feelings of grief. (mind, they use orginal voices. i know cos i recognised takeru and kamiki’s voices)

Yes I have to wait for online releases, since the cinema here (Netherlands) does not release any asian movies, it really makes me angry.  : D I feel your pain, my mum is a dictator lol.

Good to hear the fight scenes are good, it can sometimes make up for the whole movie!

Interesting you say Kenshin is a bit of a irrational romantic in the second part because in the first part he looked completely rational and intelligent, quite a change I would say?

Too bad about the editing, that was one of the things wrong with The Four Part II also, also because it’s a trilogy they sometimes make it too complicated.

Great to hear about all the new characters! I’m looking forward to it!

Qin’s Moon (秦时明月) Drama Version

Qin’s Moon fans must be excited to know that the popular wuxia 3D animation will be adapted into a drama version, starring Jiang Jin Fu as Tian Ming.

Other stars will include: Lu Yi, Michelle Chen, Sun Yi Zhou, Gina Jin, Hu Bing Qing, and Qin Jun Jie.

This Qin’s moon fan is excited but also disappointed, the cast is not exactly what I had in mind. Costumes are not like in the anime series, I’ve seen many cosplayers do it a lot better than this. hime-photos did a perfect Qin’s moon cosplay. But maybe they are not showing us everything jet. Fingers crossed.

Oh, thank you! I’m so happy that a fellow Qin’s Moon fan enjoyed my cosplay! I still want to make it better!

As for the live drama, the character designs for this drama isn’t what I expected (I would’ve preferred accurate designs) but I still look forward to it, so I’m definitely gonna watch it no matter what, haha.

agreed, we have to watch it no matter what.

Ooohhh!!! Which company or whatever is doing this? Doesn’t look like Tangren. Though I haven’t watched the other anime? version, I’m totally waiting for this one too!!

I think It must be tangren for sure.

(potential major spoiler-view at own risk)

drunkensword if you’re interested. :) gahhhhhh it’s coming to my country on 28th Aug!

it does have spoilers : D omg did I see someone dying ??…
yeey 3 days to go!!

i never fail to be amazed at sato takeru’s speed….srsly, why is this guy so freaking fast? (they used minimal effects in the fight already) with all that spinning around and running, he still manages to look cool! *gawks in disbelief* this is one scary dude.

they can speed up a fight scene in post up to 20 percent without the audience noticing it, but still sato takeru looks a lot faster than the others, really scary indeed : D

ahhh interesting to know that.

hehehe but he IS fast.
